Kwanza was founded by Maulana Karenga to pay tribute to the rich cultural heritage of Africans in America. Kwanzaa in the east African Language of Kiswahili means "The First Fruits of Harvest" and the seven principles of Kwanzaa known as Nguzo saba are meant to be observed every day of our lives.
